The first ever men's playoff meeting between the COTR Avalanche and UFV Cascades did not disappoint with close sets, huge kills and big comebacks. When the dust settled the #5 Avalanche were headed to the semis with a four set victory over the #4 Cascades.
Down 24-19 in the fourth set the Avalanche stormed back to win the set and the match 26-24, punching their ticket to the semi where they will face the Camosun Chargers.
Patrik Toze was outstanding in this quarterfinal. The PACWEST Rookie of the Year collected eight kills and eight digs and was named the Player of the Match for the Avalanche and Julio Lins chipped with 10 kills and Zach Fedechko was a key contributor from the service line and tallied seven kills.
The Avalanche recorded wins of 25-23, 16-25, 25-23 and 26-24.
Unfortunately the outcome of the semi final match did not come out in the Avs favour. The Camosun Chargers made quick work of the COTR Avalanche in a three set sweep.
The tune of the match changed when the Avalanche lost Rookie of the Year Patrik Toze to a low body injury. Following that play the life seem to get sucked out of the fifth seed as they tried to look for offence in other areas.
Player of the Match for the Avalanche was Julio Lins with 9 kills while Zach Fedechko had 7 digs and 7 kills.
In the Bronze medal match the Mariners played outstanding defence knowing the Avalanche were without their best player Patrik Toze who was sidelined with a lower body injury. The Mariners collected 14 blocks frustrating the Avalanche. They would win 25-16, 27-25 and 25-21.
The Avalanche played a gritty match without their star player. Zach Fedechko was named the Player of the Match.
