Weekly Avalanche Report: Avs secure weekend sweep to lock up PACWEST regular-season title

Coming off four straight road games to open the semester, the Avalanche returned home looking to strengthen their hold on top spot in the PACWEST standings with the Camosun Chargers visiting Cranbrook. From the first serve on Friday night, the Avs took immediate control, jumping out to a 10–4 lead in the opening set. Although the Chargers made a small push midway through, COTR stayed in command and closed out the first set 25–21.

That momentum carried into set two, with tough serving keeping Camosun out of system and the offensive connection between Boston Thiessen and Dylan Annala operating at full efficiency. The Avalanche controlled the frame from start to finish, taking it convincingly 25–20.

The third set was the most dominant of the night, as the Avs surged ahead early and never looked back, rolling to a 25–11 victory with Gage McDonald ending the match on a service ace. Annala led all scorers with 25 points in just three sets, while Albert Francisco added 9. Thiessen steered the offence with 36 assists, and the Avs' reception unit posted an outstanding 2.5 passing average.

Coach Farrero praised the effort:
"I thought our group was great tonight in front of an awesome home crowd. Reece, Albert and Diego were phenomenal on reception and that allowed Boston to run our offence gameplan to perfection. We were able to get Dylan going early and he got hot and stayed hot—Camosun really didn't have an answer for him."

After Friday's sweep, the Avalanche entered Saturday knowing a second win would secure the No. 1 seed for the PACWEST Championships—and the Chargers immediately showed they were ready to battle, jumping out to a 10–6 lead. COTR responded, pulling even at 13–13 and turning the opener into a marathon frame. After saving four set points, the Avs closed it out 31–29 on a Thiessen ace followed by an Annala transition kill.

The second set unfolded similarly, with Camosun starting strong, the Avs reeling them back in, and then pulling ahead late. A timely Jack Schmeiss ace created separation, and Diego Policarpo finished the set 25–23 with a decisive kill.

The third set remained tight the entire way. Camosun continued to score effectively through the middle, while the Avalanche answered with key kills from Annala, Policarpo, and middle Luke Margenau. Tied 23–23, Annala—PACWEST's top scorer—delivered back-to-back kills to secure the match and the weekend sweep. Annala finished with 22 points, Policarpo added 18, and Margenau chipped in 9, while Reece Clarke anchored the defense with 11 digs. Thiessen once again had the offense humming, recording 36 assists and 3 aces.

Coach Farrero reflected on the performance:
"It feels great to get this win. Camosun is a good squad and they are well-coached, and today they put a ton of pressure on us with their attack through the middle. I thought we were so tough today—we had to battle for every point. Diego and Dylan were great again offensively, Reece and Albert were so solid on defense, and Boston had another phenomenal match setting. To secure 1st place in the regular season for the 3rd year in a row is pretty darn cool, and we want to keep improving with playoffs ahead."
