Avalanche Men’s Volleyball Signs Setter Luc Brandsma for 2026/27 Season

The College of the Rockies Avalanche Men's Volleyball Program is excited to announce the signing of Luc Brandsma, a 6'0" setter from Chilliwack, British Columbia, who will join the team for the 2026–2027 PACWEST season. Brandsma brings valuable experience to the Avalanche, having competed with Fraser Valley Volleyball Club and spending one season with the UBCO Heat, continuing his development at the post-secondary level.

A skilled and intelligent playmaker, Brandsma has built an impressive resume throughout his volleyball career. At Abbotsford Christian School, he was named Single A Provincial MVP, leading his team to a Senior Boys Provincial Championship. He has also competed at the provincial level as a member of Team BC (U17) and earned a U18 Club Provincial Gold Medal, showcasing his ability to perform in high-pressure environments.

Brandsma shared that the opportunity to combine his academic interests with competitive volleyball made College of the Rockies the right fit. "I chose it because I can do trades and play volleyball," said Brandsma.

Head Coach Cisco Farrero is excited to reunite with Brandsma and add depth to the setter position. "Luc Brandsma is a great pickup for our program at the setter position and I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with him," said Farrero. "I previously coached Luc with Team BC in the summer of 2021 when he was a 17U athlete, and I loved his quiet confidence, volleyball brain, and creativity at the setter spot. Luc has a dynamic serve and will be a weapon from the baseline. In order for our team to challenge for another PACWEST title, quality setting is essential, and Luc is a great addition at that position."

At College of the Rockies, Brandsma will enroll in the Automotive Service Technician program, aligning his academic pathway with his passion for the trades.

Brandsma becomes another key addition to the Avalanche's 2026/27 recruiting class, joining his brothers Finn and Cole Brandsma as the program continues to build a talented and competitive roster for the upcoming season.
