The College of the Rockies Avalanche Women's Volleyball Program is excited to announce the signing of Leah Veysey, a 5'8" setter from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who will join the team for the 2026–2027 season. Veysey is currently completing her Grade 12 year at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate and continues to compete with the Bandits Volleyball Club.
Veysey has been the primary setter for her high school's varsity program for three seasons, helping guide the team to the AAAA Provincials for the first time in school history during her Grade 12 campaign. She was part of the 2023 varsity champions and 2024 varsity finalists in their division. Her club career includes several standout accomplishments, such as going undefeated at Nationals with Bandits 15U, placing 4th at Provincials with Bison Jr. 16U, and helping Bandits Bob 17U enter Provincials ranked fourth in Manitoba. Her years as a competitive soccer goalkeeper have also contributed to her quick reflexes, smart decision-making, and impressive defensive range—attributes that translate directly into her effectiveness as a setter.
Veysey expressed her excitement about joining the Avalanche program, noting how quickly she felt connected to the school and coaching staff. "I'm thrilled to be joining the COTR WVB program," said Veysey. "From the moment I connected with Bryan, I felt his support and his excitement about having me on his team and helping my development as a player. When I attended the High Performance Camp in August, I was really hoping for a follow-up email from Bryan—I loved the school, the town, and the entire environment. I chose the COTR WVB program because it feels like the right place for me to grow, both as an athlete and a teammate. The environment, the coaching, and the culture all align with the level of competitiveness and passion I bring to the sport. I can't wait to be part of a team that loves volleyball just as much as I do."
Avalanche head coach Bryan Fraser shared his enthusiasm for Veysey's addition, recognizing the experience and energy she brings to the position. "Leah has been competing at a high level for many years, and it's evident in both her technical skill and her strong understanding of the game," said Fraser. "She brings incredible enthusiasm and a relentless work ethic to every training session. That mindset will carry her far in the seasons ahead, both on the court and in the classroom. I'm excited to see her compete next year."
Veysey becomes the newest member of a strong and growing 2026/27 Avalanche recruiting class, continuing the program's momentum heading into next season.
